Mr. Jones and his Sun City Independent Team

The spotlight is shining bright on the national stage as we celebrate a massive achievement in the world of indoor percussion! Our very own Mr. Jones has advanced to the finals at the WGI Indoor Percussion World Championships held in Dayton, Ohio.

As a director of Sun City Independent, Mr. Jones competed against the most elite percussion ensembles in the world to secure a spot in the final round.

🥁 Matadors on the National Stage

While we are incredibly proud of Mr. Jones, the celebration doesn't stop there. We are thrilled to announce that three of our talented Parkland High School students are also members of this premier ensemble:

  • Kylie Estrada

  • Raisel Garcia

  • D’Anae Ramirez

Representing Parkland and the El Paso community at a global event like WGI is a monumental feat. These students have balanced their school commitments with the rigorous travel and practice schedule required to compete at an independent open class level.

What is WGI?

For those new to the sport, WGI Sport of the Arts is the world's premier organization producing indoor marching arts competitions. The World Championships in Dayton are the "Olympics" of the activity, bringing together thousands of performers for a weekend of high-intensity percussion, theater, and athleticism.

"Seeing our students and staff achieve this level of excellence on a national platform is inspiring. It speaks volumes about the talent and work ethic we have here at Parkland." — PHS Fine Arts Department

Congratulations to Mr. Jones, Kylie, Raisel, and D’Anae! You have made the Matador family proud!
